Why You Should Go Organic This September

1. You’re Investing in a Commitment to Quality


When you go organic, you’re putting your money into farming families who are making a conscience effort to use renewable agricultural resources without using harmful pesticides or chemicals.

The devotion that these producers put into their food production, reassures you that you and your family are getting only the safest and highest quality produce from farm to fork.

As well as utilising these day to day practices, farmers also have to go through a process of making farm land suitable for organic production. This involves building up the fertility of the land and for farmers making a switch from non-organic farms this involves ‘purifying the land’ from any pesticides or chemicals that would have been present previously.

2. You’re Doing Your Part for Sustainability and the Environment

When you choose to go organic you are doing your part for environment. You might be wondering “How does buying organic fruit and veg make a difference?” The answer is to do with supporting organic farming practices.

By buying organic produce, you increase a demand for more organic products, thus you are supporting organic farming practices which can offset carbon emissions. This is thanks to healthy soils which are a major store of carbon, and can extract three times as much carbon as the atmosphere and five times as much as trees according to The Soil Association.

Organic farming doesn’t depend on synthetic or oil-based pesticides or fertilizers. Furthermore Organic farmers, processors and traders, must comply with strict EU requirements if they want to use the EU organic logo or label their products as organic. Every operator (farmer, processor, trader, importer or exporter) is checked at least once a year, or more often on the basis of risk assessment.

3. You Limit Your Exposure to Unwanted Substances

One of the main arguments for going organic is to reduce your exposure to antibiotics that are given to livestock as part of traditional farming. These antibiotics can be passed on to humans via meat, milk, cheese and eggs. Often in organic farming livestock such as cattle are grass fed and the animals are free to roam in a free range manor.

When it comes to vegetables, organic crops are grown in organic fertiliser and soil and are never sprayed with chemical pesticides. By going organic for both meat and veg, you’re taking a big step to decrease your intake of these unwanted substances.

4. Organic Wine is Easier On Your System

That’s right organic wine is also available. It’s a wine made from grapes that have been grown without the use of artificial or synthetic chemicals, such as herbicides and pesticides.

Organic vineyards in Australia go the extra mile to look after their vines and even have small sheep graze between the vine rows, eating the grass and weeds instead of spraying them down with pesticides.

You might still get a hangover if you drink excessively as the organic wine still does contain alcohol but the grapes are in better condition and the wine contains half the amount of sulfur dioxide than regular wine.

Organic is Good for You – Inside and Out

By choosing organic cosmetics you are not only putting pure and natural ingredients on your skin, you’re also giving it a fighting chance against skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Unfortunately sometimes products that say they are made with natural ingredients aren’t telling the whole truth, this is why you should always look out for certification on the label from organisations such as the Soil Association, that make sure at least 70 percent of all ingredients in a product are organic and natural.

The Soil Association is the UK’s a membership charity campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable food, and farming and land and have certified all of VOYA’s products organic.
